Description

The cindexusers list is a forum for discussing
Cindex, the professional indexing software program
from Indexing Research. The list encourages
exchange of tips, tricks, and techniques among
Cindex users. Membership in the list is open to
current users of Cindex in its DOS, Windows, and
Macintosh formats, as well as other members of the indexing community.

Joan, Go into Tools > Sort. Set word-by-word or letter-by-letter as required. Click on the Fields tab. Move the "Page" item so it is below Main, but above Sub

I've never had to do this, but I check the manual, and the following seems to work in Cindex 2.0: In the Sort menu, click Fields and move Page just below Main.

I am revising the index of a textbook. The client wants subheads sorted by page number, not alphabet. However, I need the main headings to stay sorted by

I generally get specs in characters per line. I create some entries at, just above, and just below the specified number of characters, then fiddle with margins

Use a fixed-size font (e.g., Courier), reduce your font size close to what will be used by your client in final layout, select the number of columns and page
