*** NEW *** Monterey NO on Prop 8
We now have a No on Prop 8 Fundraising Site just for Monterey County! Donations go to Equality California--the folks who have put that great No on 8 ad on TV recently. The Yes on 8 folks are gearing up for their big campaign now, so it's crucial that the No on 8 effort keep the media buys going in order to get the message out about what the proposition means (the Yes folks are using misleading tactics) and to sway those undecided folks. View the ad and learn more about the group to which donations go: http://noonprop8.com/home. Monterey's local site is located at www.actblue.com/page/montereyNoOn8. [This info was added 9/28/08]

Bay Area Municipal Elections Committee (BAYMEC)
The Bay Area Municipal Elections Committee (BAYMEC) is a four-county lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender political action group. We have been advocating for the civil rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people since 1984. BAYMEC board members and volunteers meet with candidates and elected officials, publish an endorsement card for their members and the gay press, raise funds for gay-friendly candidates, and educate the gay community about candidates and issues. We believe that this work has significantly increased the visibility and political clout of the gay community in Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Mateo counties. And in this capacity, we have built networks with political groups and activists across a broad band of shared concerns in the Central Coast area. For further information, please contact BAYMEC board members and Monterey County representatives Matt Friday and Bruce Carlson at <mfandbc@redshift.com> or call (831)899-2263.
