The Global AIDS Alliance, heeding the calls of its partners in Africa and elsewhere, is dedicated to catalyzing and facilitating an aggressive three-pronged Stop Global AIDS campaign for a rapid, expanded and comprehensive response to the global AIDS pandemic. The names – and goals – of the three inter-related components of the Stop Global AIDS campaign are:
DONATE THE DOLLARS: Ensure that $15 billion is provided by the world community each year to combat global AIDS, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. This money is needed to enable nonprofit organizations and governments in the affected countries to implement a comprehensive strategy of prevention, treatment, orphan and widow support, infrastructure strengthening, and research.
TREAT THE PEOPLE: Ensure that everyone has the necessary access to whatever commodities and medicines (including antiretroviral drugs) are needed to prevent, alleviate and/or treat HIV/AIDS and associated opportunistic infections, and that these are available at best world prices.
DROP THE DEBT: Ensure that accelerated debt cancellation is provided to developing countries that are or soon will be heavily impacted by HIV/AIDS and that are committed to combating the global AIDS pandemic.
GAA works with its partners using grassroots mobilization, campaign actions, and pop-culture media strategies to generate the political will for actions that will rapidly achieve meaningful results.
