Humanistic Judaism is a non-theistic branch of Judaism which organizes those who identify with the history, values, culture and fate of the Jewish people and was started by Rabbi Sherwin Wine in the 1960's. The purpose of the hjmail list is to facilitate communications for all
those interested in furthering the development of Humanistic Judaism, especially in its organized form. The Society for Humanistic Judaism (www.shj.org) is the principal organizing body. Organized congregations and communities exist in the United States and other countries. This mailing list and the associated web page are provided by Walter Hellman of the Portland, Oregon SHJ affiliate. This mail group and page are not associated with the Society.
