Detroit native, Jean DuShon, was welcomed into famed DJ, Del Shield's hallowed "club" when she first started recording. "The Club" consisted of other great jazz singers: Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, Nancy Wilson, Anita O'Day, Betty Carter, Sarah Vaughan, Peggy Lee, Billie Holiday, Carmen McRae, Damita Jo, Gloria Lynne, Dakota Staton and June Christy. Miss DuShon was signed by Ahmet Ertegun to Atlantic Records, where she was produced by Phil Spector. Later, she contracted with Lenox Records, Columbia Records, ABC-Paramount and then Chess Records, where she recorded three albums. Many other recordings followed, including the very first-released recording of For Once In My Life. Ms. DuShon debuted off-Broadway in "No Strings Attached," followed by "The Crystal Tree" and "Helen of Troy." Broadway welcomed her in "What the Wine Sellers Buy," "Bubbling Brown Sugar," and "Blues in the Night." In regional theater, she starred in "Little Dreamer: A Nite In The Life of Bessie Smith." Miss DuShon has performed in hundreds of legendary nightclubs, theaters and concert halls including the Apollo Theater, Howard Theater, Birdland, the Village Gate, Fillmore East, Lenox Lounge, NY's Sweetwaters, the Blue Note, Sign of the Dove, Basin Street East, Symphony Hall, the Waldolf Astoria, Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas, Philharmonic Hall and most of the great show palaces of Europe, South America and the United States.
