... Vim versions compiled for 32-bit processors cannot open files larger than 2 GB, see "help limits". Much larger files are possible if you have a 64-bit

Hi, ... why not split the file first with split and than concatenate it with cat? Or preprocess it using sed or awk? Kind regards Chris

... I don't think Vim can do that. What follows is more of a workaround as long as you only need to access the file in read only mode: Open first 500Kb: $

How to open a 10G file?
I have tried the plugin called "LargeFile" but no success. Can vim open and edit part of file such as the first 500K bytes? Thanks in advance.
